The Ring has been one of my favourite films since I was eleven years old. I couldn’t say precisely what it was about it that appealed to me then—perhaps it was the creepy little girl who looked eerily like I did at the time. But even at eleven, I felt an indescribable attraction to the landscape and the dark, gloomy, blue and green colours. I notice now that a lot of things I love to see photographed most are things that I’m likely drawn to because of that film—lighthouses, horses, waves, static on televisions, rain on car windows, cabins, staircases in the dark, televisions in apartment windows, islands, psychiatric hospitals.
